Purple Haze is a sativa usually listed as a cross of Purple Thai and Haze; no breeder is confirmed, Weedmaps traces it to California’s Haze scene of the late 1960s and 1970s, and High Times says the name now covers several distinct seed lines.1,2,3 It tests at a median total THC of 22.39% across 116 state lab tests of Purple Haze flower, with the middle half of results between 19.42% and 24.73%.4 CBD is negligible: 1 of 97 tests that reported CBD reached 1%.4

A sativa-leaning strain that most listings describe as Purple Thai × Haze: Leafly, Weedmaps, AllBud and High Times all name those two parents. Leafly lists lavender, flowery and violet as its flavors and creative, euphoric and giggly as its top effects.1,2,3,5

Stronger in state lab tests than most strain listings suggest: the median total THC across 116 state lab tests was 22.39% and 22.4% of tests reached 25% or more, while Leafly lists 16% and High Times 16–20%.1,3,4 The state matters: Nevada’s 81 tests had a median of 23.72%, Michigan’s 17 tests 13.43%.4
Floral or grape, depending on the source: Leafly users list lavender, flowery and violet, while 38% of Weedmaps flavor reports say grape, 37% blueberry and 25% sweet, and AllBud lists berry, fruity, grape, spicy and sweet.1,2,5
Not one anyone can document. SeedFinder’s entry for the original calls it “an old myth”, and High Times says the name is now “a banner flown by several genetically distinct seed lines”, from feminized Purple Thai × Haze to G13 Labs’ Afghani × Haze and ACE Seeds’ pure sativa (see genetics).3,8,9,10
At licensed stores, most often around Los Angeles going by Weedmaps: on Oct 4, 2026, 35 stores within 50 miles of Los Angeles listed Purple Haze flower, out of 93 store listings across the 27 US markets we checked; 16 markets had none (see where to find it).11

Purple Haze does not appear in the sales rankings this network tracks: it is not in the national top eight of Leafly’s best-selling strains of 2025, not in Headset’s 2020 strain sales report, and not the top seller in any of the 23 adult-use states in The Marijuana Herald’s September 2026 list. Leafly’s list of the 100 best strains of all time leaves it out too.12,13,14,15
