How published THC figures compare

Strain databases publish a single figure or a range: Leafly lists 16%, High Times 16–20% and Weedmaps 13–26%, while AllBud shows 26% in its strain box and 14–19% on average in its description.2,3,4,5 Seed sellers advertise 24% (ILGM’s product page; 20% in SeedFinder’s listing of its seeds), 19% (Zamnesia) and 15–20% (United Cannabis Seeds), and SeedFinder’s listing of Growers Choice’s version gives 5–10%.6,7,8,9,10 In state lab results the median was 22.39%, above Leafly’s figure and the top of High Times’ range; 90% of tests came in below 26.79%, and 22.4% reached 25% or more.1

Nevada supplied 81 of the 116 tests, so the overall median leans on it. By state: Nevada 23.72% (81 tests), Michigan 13.43% (17 tests), Washington 19.89% (16 tests); Nevada’s median is 10.29 points above Michigan’s.1 The year with the most tests, 2020 (35), had a median of 24.61%, while 2022, with 15 tests, had 13.43%.1

Leafly lists myrcene as the dominant terpene, then caryophyllene and limonene, and High Times names the same three.2,3 Our 81 tests with individual terpene values, all from Nevada labs, rank limonene 0.23%, β-caryophyllene 0.17%, β-myrcene 0.16% by median.1 Test by test the picture splits: terpinolene leads 35 of the 81 panels, yet its median is only 0.04% against a mean of 0.39%, because most of the other panels carry little of it.1 Different labs, products and years can produce different rankings; only a batch’s own certificate describes that batch.

Published CBD figures are small: Leafly lists 0%, High Times 0–1%, Zamnesia 0–1% and United Cannabis Seeds 0.3%.2,3,8,9 In state lab results, 61 of the 97 tests that reported CBD found none, and 1 reached 1% or more.1

Limits of this data

  • Coverage is uneven. NV (81), MI (17), WA (16), MA (2) supply the 116 tests, and none come from California; Oregon and Rhode Island results carry no product names and could not be matched.
  • Washington tests count only when the strain field and the product name both name the strain; 7 Washington flower results with only a generic product name were left out.
  • Some labs report higher THC than others, so we publish medians and middle ranges rather than maxima. One lab supplied 29.3% of these tests (15 labs in total), and one producer accounts for 45.5% of the 99 tests that record a producer.
  • Terpene medians come from 81 tests with individual terpene values, all from Nevada labs; the Michigan and Washington results report no terpenes. We matched names strictly: crosses and near-miss names (for example “Malawi x Purple Haze FECO”) are excluded and counted, and duplicate certificates are removed.
